How To Stake A Claim All claims in British Columbia today are “staked” over the computer. There are a few steps involved. STEP 1: You must get a BCeID number, available through the local Service BC (Government Agent) or FrontCounter BC. Online registration is available at http://www.bceid.ca/register/personal but you still must appear in person with two pieces of ID (no photocopies, one with photo – see website for details). STEP 2: Using your BCeID number, you may apply for your Free Miner’s Certificate in person at the Government Agency or Mineral Titles Office, or you may download and fill out the FMC form and mail it, with a cheque (details here: http://www.empr.gov.bc.ca/Titles/MineralTitles/faq/Pages/fmc.aspx). There is a charge for this Certificate (currently, $25 for an individual and $500 for a corporation). The Certificate is valid for one year and can be renewed. Renewals are done on-line at https://www.mtonline.gov.bc.ca/. Log on to MTO with your BCeID and Password, then click on the 'FMC Client' tab. From there you will click on the 'FMC renewal' hyperlink and follow the steps through to completion. STEP 3: You are now ready to stake your claim! Access Mineral Titles Online at https://www.mtonline.gov.bc.ca and follow the instructions to log in with your BCeID number. Take advantage of the FAQ and tutorial sections while you get familiar with the site. |
