Endako Mines, A Joint Venture of Thompson Creek Mining Ltd. and Sojitz Moly Resources, Inc is currently recruiting 1 Full-Time Industrial Instrumentation Journeyman or Technician.

Endako Mines is a 55,000 tonne per day, open pit molybdenum mine, mill and roaster. Our operation is located 25 km from the Village of Fraser Lake. This allows our employees to commute daily to the mine site from home. Fraser Lake, with an area population of approximately 2000, is situated on the shores of Fraser Lake, near the geographic centre of British Columbia. There are a variety of year-round recreational activities including skiing, golfing, boating, hiking, and many other activities for the outdoor enthusiast. In addition to this there is a recreation centre that hosts a variety of competitive and non-competitive sports. There are educational facilities from Play School through to Grade 12. There is a medical clinic staffed by four doctors, a nurse practitioner, nurses and technicians. Duties will include:
• Consult manufacturer’s manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints to determine tests and maintenance procedures for instruments used for measuring and controlling flow, level, pressure, temperature, chemical composition and other variables in manufacturing and processing.
• Inspect and test operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices and precision measuring instruments.
• Repair and adjust system components, such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts.
• Calibrate components and instruments according to manufacturer’s specifications.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance work and complete tests and maintenance reports.
• Install control and measurement instruments on existing and new plant equipment and processes.
• Consult with and advise process operators.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Instrument Technologists’ Diploma or Interprovincial Journeyman Certificate (Instrumentation).
• AutoCAD experience.
• Experience with PLC and HMI control systems.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Preference will be given to applicants with:
• Industrial process experience.

Reporting to the Mine Operations Manager, the Chief Mine Engineer will be responsible for development and execution of overall strategy for engineering, including short and long-terplans.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Ensure that the strategic business plan, tactical plan, budget and monthly forecast are available, consistent and communicated effectively,
• Regularly review conceptual design work in all engineering disciplines to optimize grade control, minimize dilution, and ensure best practices are being utilized,
• Adopt new and innovative products, techniques and procedures to increase the value of the operation,
• Manage the engineering department including planning, rock mechanics, ventilation and survey,
• Set clear objectives and performance expectations required of the engineering team to achieve business plans and production targets,
• Promote and maintain a high performance culture and develop team for current and future needs of the mine,
• Ensure that the mine design work incorporates a consistently high focus on the safety of the environment,

The ideal candidatewillpossess the following qualifications, experience and attributes:

• Degree in Mining related discipline with 5 – 10 years engineering experience related to open-pit engineering and operating
  duties,
• Experience in short and long range mine planning,
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
• Proficient with mine planning computer software, MineSight,
• Experience in production scheduling, budgeting and equipment selection,
• Experience in surface mining operations, design and expansions.

Reporting to the Mine Operations Manager, the Mine Operations Superintendent will be responsible for development and execution of overall strategy for engineering, including short and long-term plans.

Duties/Responsibilities

- Manage day-to-day operations of the open pit mining operations, leading by example, build a safe and strong employee culture,

- Plan, direct and coordinate, either personally or through subordinate supervisors, the activities of mine operations employees concerned with mine production in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner. Monitor costs, productivity, safety and employee morale,

-Interact with Mine Management to establish production and quality standards, using knowledge of mining technology, methods, procedures, standards and machine & equipment capabilities,

-Set priorities, and plan and direct mining activities in keeping with effective mining operations and cost factors. Coordinate production activities along with procurement, maintenance, production planning, safety and quality control activities to obtain optimal use of employee and equipment resources,

-Review and analyse production to determine sources of variance from production specifications and goals. Through collaboration and effective communication with all appropriate parties, develop and implement methods and procedures to eliminate operational problems and improve efficiency and ore quality. Communicate and coordinate with engineering to modify equipment and procedures in order to improve productivity,

-Revise production schedule as necessary. Effectively communicate any changes in schedules, production or procedures to managers and employees throughout the site,

-Directly support the Mine Manager in all aspects of daily mine operations. Assume duties and responsibilities of the Mine Manager during his/her absence,

-Advocate and maintain compliance with corporate, governmental and site environmental policies, procedures and regulations. Create awareness of environmentally harmful behaviour,

-Leading by example, manage the performance and development of direct reports. Ensure compliance with Endako Personnel Policies and Procedures. Provide specific training and development opportunities for supervisory and hourly employees. Coach and mentor subordinates concerning employee relations, safety, environmental, productivity and cost issues. Address inappropriate behaviour as needed,

-Monitor employee morale, overtime and attendance. Participate in employee meetings to resolve personnel issues. Recommend disciplinary action as warranted. Ensure compliance with provisions of Federal, Provincial and Company safety rules, regulations and policies,

-Assist in the development and preparation of capital and operating budgets. Routinely review expenditures to prevent excess costs or inaccurate charges. Interface with vendors and suppliers to ensure the efficient use of supplies and tools,

-Study and review data, charts, reports and records, and confer with engineering, maintenance and production personnel to plan and direct activities impacting departmental productivity. Provide input for short and long range mine planning and development,

-Oversee investigations involving safety incidents, accidents and near misses. Ensure that reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Recommend procedures and methods to improve employee safety,

-May be assigned other duties.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience and attributes:


-Bachelor’s Degree in Mining, Civil or related discipline with 5 years experience, or 8-10 years experience directing a large construction or mining equipment fleet. Strong familiarity with Endako mobile mining fleet,

-Excellent oral and written communication, leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and conflict resolution skills,

-Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude, able to develop and foster a team environment,

-Thorough working knowledge and understanding of efficient mining practices, procedures and regulations that conform with applicable Company, Provincial and Federal safety regulations.

Job Description and Duties

Northwest Community College (NWCC), invites applications for a full-time, term Industry Education Liaison in the School of Exploration & Mining (SEM) department. This appointment will commence as soon as possible and end March 31, 2015 and will require a flexible schedule as some evening and weekend work as well as some travel may be necessary.  Salary will be in accordance with BCGEU Support Staff Scale, Level 8 (under review).

Duties: Reporting to the SEM Project Administrator, the first point of contact for Industry, students and communities, this position builds strategic relationships and liaises on behalf of NWCC with the exploration, mining, and natural resource industry, key stakeholders and prospective students. The Industry Education Liaison builds industry connections as well as promotes and supports the NWCC SEM programming and students.  Duties will include:

  • Gather industry information pertaining to the demands and needs for education and training for the workforce that will enable NWCC to grow and evolve SEM
  • Proactively develop and maintain collaborative relationships with communities and industry, liaise on behalf of the SEM with industry
  • Conduct targeted marketing and facilitate networking activities between NWCC, industry representatives and other key stakeholders to promote SEM
  • Recruitment for the courses and programs offered through the SEM
  • Promote the value of hiring new graduates and facilitate connections between graduates and Industry
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of contact databases pertinent to the activities of SEM

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Natural Resources or relevant field along with a minimum of 3 years of directly related experience in communications and in natural resources, mining, or exploration industries. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with the resources and minerals industry
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and experience working collaboratively as part of a high-functioning team
  • Demonstrated skill and experience working with business/industry stakeholders and communities to develop strong relationships and achieve common goals
  • Ability to develop targeted and strategic communications and marketing materials for delivery to a wide range of audiences including government, communities and industry
  • Proven experience successfully working with diverse populations and Aboriginal people
  • Knowledge and skill in employment advising
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient computer skills
